Andrew's Journal Day 4 (May 2)

When I woke up today I had to get ready for the Children of Peace, who come to the school around 9 on a big truck, where about 50 kids stay inside and hang onto the back if they can’t fit.  When they arrive they are all thrilled to meet us.  I taught them some American games, they especially enjoyed whiffle ball.  Max, another teacher, and I taught the older kids to play a game of volleyball.  As the children leave we hop on the truck out (I was hanging off the back holding onto a metal bar.)  We take the truck to where Ivan (a student at the school) lives and we walk with him up to his house.  We needed to talk to his mother because we gave her 3000 schillings to feed her family but she kept 1000 of it.  We were also afraid that she is abusive to Ivan so we spoke with a neighbor (Simon) who is an old friend of Mrs. Wybar’s.  He assures us that he will watch over the family situation and report back.  After that we walked back and watched a game of soccer on a nearby field with Dan and Allan (two local boys.)  Dan and Allan like to spend all their free time with us and when we head back they listen to music outside with us.  We have dinner and Mary and I watch a movie on a portable DVD player before bed.
